Menopause accommodation & coverage laws

Menopause law is sweeping the nation.

Seven states have already enacted menopause legislation — workplace accommodations, insurance coverage mandates, or both. At least sixteen more bills were introduced in state legislatures this year. Find your state, see what applies, and see what it takes to get ready.

At the federal level: the Menopausal Workers’ Fairness Act of 2026 (H.R. 9671) was introduced in July 2026. Modeled on the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, it would require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for menopause-related limitations. The Improving Menopause Care for Veterans Act and the Servicewomen and Veterans Menopause Research Act are also pending. None has become law — which is exactly why the states are moving.

Some states moved the other way this year: Virginia’s governor vetoed its workplace bills in May, Colorado’s HB26-1122 was postponed indefinitely in February, and Florida’s HB 161 died in subcommittee in March.
